Explorer Ventures announces their newest destination – the fabled Republic of the Maldives
Explorer Ventures is excited to announce the addition of the Maldives to their growing list of dive destinations!
The M/V Carpe Vita Explorer, scheduled to launch in early January 2011 and begin service in February 2011, will be a very exciting and very luxurious addition to the Explorer Ventures Fleet! This brand new 20-passenger, 125 foot wooden-hull safari yacht, along with her 65-foot custom matching dhoni, is being built by one of the Maldives’ most accomplished boat builders. It will provide guests with an exceptional and luxurious yachting experience, large, hotel-style staterooms, two luxury suites, Jacuzzi and unmatched open-air comfort! Locally owned and operated, the Carpe Vita Explorer results from a partnership between Explorer Ventures and Amir Mansoor/Carpe Diem Maldives, whose owners and staff have many years of combined experience providing visitors to the Maldives with outstanding service and access to the area’s best dive sites.
Aboard the vessel, the main deck will feature a large salon including the main bar and lounge area. The area will feature a large flat screen TV, DVD/MP3 player, sound system, sitting and dance area and a fully equipped bar offering a wide variety of spirits, wines, liquors, cocktails and beers. Just forward of the salon area there will be an outdoor shaded sitting area complete with comfortable cushioned benches - a peaceful place to sip your afternoon tea while the vessel is cruising and take in the beautiful colors of the Indian Ocean. The main deck will also include a galley equipped with spacious commercial refrigerators/freezers, the laundry room, and a swim platform at the back of the main deck (with two fresh water showers). Also on the main deck there will be a camera table and an outdoor area where the dive briefings and other activity briefings will be conducted. Staterooms 3 & 4 will be located on this deck as well.
From the main deck, there will be access to the upper deck via indoor or outdoor staircases. The upper deck will include staterooms 1& 2 (the VIP Suites), the bridge and an aft al-fresco dining area where semi-buffet meals will be served. A stairway will lead from the upper deck to the beautiful Sun deck where you can choose a chaise in the sun or in the ample shaded area or to take a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi. Salsa dancing workshops will also be held in this area. Also from the main deck, a stairway leading downstairs will provide access to the large lower deck staterooms (numbers 5-10).
All 10 staterooms will offer a private bath and shower, separately controlled air-conditioning and plenty of storage space. The 2 upper deck luxury suites will be very large with a king bed or twin beds and study area; the 2 main deck staterooms will accommodate 2 individuals with 2 twin beds or a couple in 1 queen; the 6 lower deck staterooms will offer both a double bed and a twin bed.
The Carpe Vita Explorer will offer 10 night and 7 night itineraries to North and South Male and Ari atolls from November through April, and to North Male and Ari, Baa and Raa Atolls from May through October. Special itineraries to the northern atolls are also planned. All of the itineraries are planned to accommodate seasonal changes, current and pelagic migration patterns.
Staffed by a crew of 14, the Carpe Vita Explorer will be ideally sized and equipped for divers. Four dives will be conducted daily directly from a 61-foot dhoni, which will be fully equipped with a bathroom, hot-water showers and air and nitrox compressors, and quality Scubapro dive gear for each guest that needs it. Explorer Ventures’ guests will be delighted by the above and below the water experience found in their new destination and vessel!

The construction of M/V Humboldt Explorer is going exceeding well in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She was designed by one of the premier marine architects in Ecuador, and is the first of her kind. She is a 106 foot, 2 level steel monohull vessel, built for stability on the long crossings to Darwin and Wolf, and features raised lower staterooms to allow a view in every room. The vessel offers 6 lower and 2 upper staterooms, each with private baths, full-size twin beds that can convert to queen beds and large windows. A teak sundeck features open and covered areas, a Jacuzzi, wet bar, BBQ grill and ample seating for all; the indoor dining and lounge area comfortably seats all guests as well. A large dive deck with camera rinse tank, large camera table, wetsuit drying area and hot showers accommodates 16 divers with ease.
The new vessel, named for the current that brings life to the pristine and world-renowned Galapagos Islands, has secured one of the valuable diving permits for the Galapagos Islands and will be diving Darwin and Wolf Islands for the next 15 years, which was confirmed by the Galapagos National Park in early December.
