April 13, 2010 - Jennifer Cumming, Explorer Ventures Galapagos manager, had the chance to again visit the new Humboldt Explorer in the boatyard in Guayaquil, Ecuador this on Tuesday April 13. What a treat!  The boat looks terrific and is right on schedule.

She is in her last few weeks of detail work – varnishing, finishing the electrical installations, finalizing dive deck details and painting. As anyone that has been through a construction or remodelling project before knows, the last few weeks are a bit of a mess, but underneath all the construction grime, everything except the final additions is done, and is just waiting for final details, paint and varnish. Because there are close to 50 people working on the boat right now, taking a good picture that gives you an idea of the progress is nearly impossible, so we’ll hold off on the new pictures and post more very soon as some of the chaos subsides!

The dive deck is very well designed with many little details – camera table with multiple levels and a lip on the top to prevent anything from falling, dual level recharge station, snack and refreshment area, personal dive bins, spacious wetsuit area, dual showers, large rinse tanks and a special area close to the panga boarding for those guests that need a little more assistance.

My favourite feature of the dive deck is the his and hers dive deck heads (bathrooms). This is something truly unique.
The boat is more of a yacht than a liveaboard dive boat – the nicest yet in the Explorer Ventures fleet! All cabins have large windows – even the lower cabins. The floors are hand-laid teak, the bathrooms are hand-laid tile, and each cabin has its own television/DVD and a unique bed that can be split into two if necessary.

The sundeck is unlike any other out there, and is a perfect area to spend the long crossings and to watch for whales and enjoy the scenery of the Galapagos Islands. The rear area features a Jacuzzi and open air seating area, the centre a covered area with bar, tables and BBQ and the front another uncovered lounging area.
